ISAT U Faculty Set to Join 1st International Community Service 2025 in Indonesia

Nine faculty members from Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) will proudly represent the Philippines in the upcoming 1st International Community Service (ICS) 2025, to be held from May 19 to 22 at Novotel Yogyakarta Malioboro, Indonesia.

The event, to be spearheaded by Universitas PGRI Semarang (UPGRIS) in collaboration with Universitas Negeri Jakarta, is expected to bring together educators and researchers from Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and the Philippines to foster academic engagement and enhance international collaboration in community service initiatives.

On the opening day, participating universities will present their institutional profiles. Representing ISAT U, Engr. Adrian Pillano is scheduled to showcase the university’s pioneering community outreach programs and technological innovations that uplift local communities. This session will aim to foster intercultural dialogue and lay the foundation for collaborative academic partnerships to address common regional challenges.

A major highlight of ICS 2025 will be the official launch of the Sustainable ICS Consortium, an initiative led by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rize, Chairperson of the ICS 2025. The consortium will focus on developing long-term strategies for sustainable development through academic-community partnerships. ISAT U, with its strong track record in service-based research, is anticipated to be recognized for its valuable potential contributions to the consortium’s goals.

Another anticipated highlight is the Panel Session on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), where Dr. Cora Biton of ISAT U is expected to share the university’s role in assisting Filipino entrepreneurs. Her presentation will detail how ISAT U integrates research findings into community enterprises and provides technical support to enhance productivity—reflecting the university’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and the ICS vision of education as a tool for societal transformation.

On the second day, delegates will be divided into clusters for community immersions in Indonesian villages, including visits to BUMDES (village-owned enterprises), Pustaka Desa Wukirsari (village library), and SMPN 3 Imogiri. These visits will give participants a firsthand look at grassroots governance and educational systems in rural Indonesia.

Additional groups will participate in cultural and livelihood activities, such as Wedang Uwuh and herbal tea production, traditional Batik-making at Batik Giriloyo, and crafts including bamboo work, knitting, and WAYANG (puppet-making). Participants will also explore agricultural initiatives led by Kelompok Wanita Tani (Women’s Farmers Group) and observe local food production like Keripik Sagu, gaining insights into sustainable practices deeply rooted in community resilience and cultural heritage.

These interactions are expected to offer enriching experiences and spark discussions on possible joint research and community service initiatives among ASEAN countries and beyond, strengthening intercultural bonds and academic cooperation.

The third day of the event will feature a cultural tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Borobudur Temple. ISAT U faculty members will have the opportunity to admire the temple’s spiritual symbolism and architectural grandeur. The tour will also include visits to Punthuk Setumbu (Information Center) and a climb up 50 meters of sacred steps leading to the main temple complex. The day will continue with lunch at Svarga Bumi and a scenic Botswagen Safari through surrounding Borobudur villages. Stops will include Rengginan Bu Yatin for traditional pulot (or katen) making and Ashfa Madu’s souvenir shop near Kalyandra Hill. The tour will conclude with a group photo at Randu Alas and a cultural dinner at Jejuran, immersing participants in authentic Indonesian rural life.

Through this international engagement, ISAT U is expected to further strengthen its global academic linkages and reaffirm its leadership in sustainable, inclusive community service. Faculty delegates aim to return home inspired and equipped with new perspectives to enhance local programs that align with global development goals and regional solidarity.

ISAT U Celebrates 10 year-journey as University

After ten years of becoming a university, Iloilo Science and Technology University commemorated its Charter Anniversary focusing on its accomplishments over the decade.

From Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, the institution was converted into Iloilo Science and Technology University on May 18, 2015. Exactly after 10 years, ISAT U showcased remarkable achievements on infrastructure development, dynamic academic programs, innovative research, competent faculty and exemplary graduates.

Ten days before the actual commemoration, the Public Information and Communications Office took the streets of Iloilo City and launched the “PAMUKAW” as part of its information drive for the Charter Anniversary celebration. Also, stories of memorable moments of students, alumni, faculty, and staff were simultaneously featured on social media.

Everyone’s excitement escalated as the opening program commenced on May 14 at the Festive Mall which was also the venue for the university exhibit. Different colleges, offices and external campuses showcased their products, academic programs, food, and students’ outputs. Technologies and other innovations were pitched and presented during the InnoScale: Technology Pitching and Business Matching which was participated by the faculty and attended by guests and partners from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Iloilo (PCCI-Iloilo), Department of Science and Technology Region VI (DOST VI), Iloilo Business Club, Iloilo Economic Development Foundation, Inc., Innovate Iloilo, and the Iloilo Government Industry and Academe Council (IGIAC). Meanwhile, sportsmanship, skills, and athleticism were tested also on the first day of the celebration, which gathered enthusiasts to join the sports events which took place simultaneously in ISAT U Barotac Nuevo and Dumangas campuses. Teaching and non-teaching personnel took time out and joined the basketball, badminton, volleyball, chess, and darts games.

The professional lecture attended by the faculty and staff of ISAT U Leon Campus, on the second day, May 15,  brought additional brewing knowledge and skills in preparing Robusta coffee. Mr. Ariel Lastica, a licensed Quality Robusta grader and the lead implementor of Pakiburak, gave insights into the coffee industry which is very timely for the campus which specializes agriculture. After the Professional Lecture, a field demonstration in ISAT U Miagao, showcased a vibrant celebration of electrifying movements and display of dedication and synchronization, a powerful expression of school unity and student excellence.

In its commitment to community service, the Extension Services Division headed the Blood Donation activity on May 16, with donors coming from the different campuses of the university. Along with this, they also led the group of faculty in the Mangrove Planting at Sunset Boulevard on May 17.

During the “Gabi ng Parangal,” which was the  highlight of the celebration, the Administration honored the hard work and dedication of the faculty and non-teaching personnel. In his speech, Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre, Jr., emphasized that no matter role they play in the university, each one is important and that they contribute to the success of the university. He also encouraged them to work with integrity and focus on the vision of ISAT U as their own. Meanwhile, the university also honored the remarkable achievements and contributions of its alumni during the Pasidungog 2025.

The celebration was concluded with the program “ISAT U Highlights” on May 18, 2025. This featured the university jingle, the enhanced video of the University Hymn and the relaunch of the university profile and University Tagline, “Innovating Tomorrow, Today.” A narrative of all the notable accomplishments and achievements of ISAT U over the last 10 years was also highlighted. Some of these achievements were on the field of research, infrastructure, board exam performance and academic programs which made an impact and put the university on the national map. Kudos ISAT U! ISAT U – COLLEGE OF INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY (CIT) RECOGNIZED AS KEY PARTNER IN SUPPORT OF PHILIPPINE ARMY’S 6TH FSSU

The Iloilo Science and Technology University- College of Industrial Technology (CIT) was recognized by the Philippine Army’s 6th Forward Service Support Unit (6th FSSU) as a key partner in support of the unit’s mission. 

On behalf of Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre,Jr., SUC President III, Dr. Jeanneth F. Darroca, Dean of the College of Industrial Technology received the Plaque of Recognition during the 33rd Founding Anniversary of the 6th FSSU on April 10, 2025 at Camp Martin Delgado, Iloilo City.

The recognition was given in acknowledgement of the University’s active role as a partner in the unit’s accomplishment of providing proactive and sustained logistics operation in Western Visayas.

ISAT U – CIT formally established partnership with the 6th FSSU on February 28, 2023. Since then, the college has been actively conducting skills training programs for the personnel of the Philippine Army.

The partnership includes the provision of experts to train the participants in the fundamentals of their respective trades, support for logistical and resources needs during the training, and the issuance of certificates upon completion of training hours and outputs.

Among the programs implemented under this collaboration is the Basic Under Chassis Repair training conducted by the BIT Automotive, HVACRT Technology and Graduate Program of the CIT.

Moreover, the Food Technology program conducted training in meat processing, baking, food preservation, and other food processing techniques.

This recognition highlights ISAT U–CIT’s unwavering commitment to community engagement and nation-building through its extension programs.

University honors topnotchers and passers of Mechanical Engineering Licensure Exam

Iloilo Science and Technology University held a Testimonial Dinner in honor of the two topnotchers as well as the passers of the February 2025 Mechanical Engineering Licensure Examination yesterday, March 21, 2025 at Diversion 21 Hotel, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

Engr. Ivan Joey A. Gadot, ranked no. 2 and Engr. Francis Vonn G. Jesura at top 6, successfully placed ISAT U again in the spotlight. This exemplary performance of the two alumni and 42 other passers simply demonstrates the quality of education that the university upholds and its dedication and commitment to academic excellence. In his speech, ISAT University President, Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre, Jr., commended the topnotchers as well as the passers. He thanked them for the pride and honor that they brought to the university, saying that this achievement is a shared victory. Dr. Salistre also reminded them that wherever they go, they must always carry the core values of ISAT U – Integrity, Commitment, Accountability, Responsiveness and Excellence. He also commended the faculty for their dedication, and passion for teaching and for relentlessly mentoring their students.

The program gave the parents, classmates, and faculty the chance to share their testimonies about Engr. Gadot and Engr. Jesura, giving them praises for their dedication, faith and determination in reaching their goals.

Mrs. Jonna Rose Gadot, mother of Engr. Gadot affirmed that his son has been a consistent topnotcher since kindergarten, and expressed that despite of this, he would never hesitate to sacrifice his goals for his siblings. She confessed that people questioned her before why they enrolled Engr. Gadot at ISAT U. Both parents are happy to say that they were never wrong nor regret their decision. On the other hand, Mr. and Mrs. Jesura were also thankful that Engr. Jesura improved his study habits and focused on his goals which have greatly contributed to his performance in the board exams.

Both topnotchers received a plaque of recognition and incentives. A check of ₱75, 000.00 was given to Engr. Ivan Joey Gadot as top 2 while Engr. Francis Vonn Jesura received ₱25, 000.00. The giving of incentives is based on BOR Resolution No. 100-2022.

During the program, Mr. Sandro Floyd Tumenlaco, a 4th year student of BS Mechanical Engineering delivered his words of affirmation and commitment that Class 2025 will do their best to give an exemplary performance and accepted the challenge that they too will produce topnotchers by next year’s board examination.

The Testimonial Program concluded with Engr. Niňo G. Blones, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, encouraging not just the new engineers to pursue and accomplish amazing things but also the next generation of ME graduates of ISAT U.

CAPSU explores ISAT U’s Engineering and Architecture Programs in Benchmarking Visit

Capiz State University (CAPSU)- College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology (CEAT) benchmarked the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U)- College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) last February 10, 2025.

The day’s commenced with a courtesy call to the office of ISAT U President, Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre, Jr., where the CAPSU faculty were warmly welcomed. Dr. Salistre expressed his appreciation for the visit, emphasizing the importance of strengthening academic and industry connections between universities for mutual growth.

The benchmark activity continued with a formal welcome from the Office of the Dean lead by Dr. Evan G. Daza who expressed the significance of such collaborations in advancing educational standards. VPAA Dr. Corazon C. Corbal underscored her message the importance of competence, curriculum, instructions, and leadership, stressing the concept of “one ISAT U” in achieving academic excellence.

Dr. Maria Teresa Carbon, Director of Instruction presented an overview of curriculum and instructional methods employed at ISAT U. Her presentation outlined the steps ISAT U has taken to maintain a cutting-edge curriculum that aligns with the latest trends in engineering and architecture.

Additionally, Engr. Philip Lloyd E. Legada showcased some of  CEA’s best practices, providing a comprehensive understanding of how the college enhances student learning and prepares for real-world challenges.

Following these presentations, the CAPSU faculty members were guided on a tour of the state-of-the-art laboratories in the Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, and Architecture departments. The tour allowed CAPSU faculty members to gain firsthand insight into the advanced resources and facilities available at ISAT U, enhancing their understanding of how practical learning is integrated into the curriculum.

The benchmarking activity highlights the growing cooperation between universities, with a shared goal of improving education through collaborative learning experiences, innovation, and the continued development of both institutions’ curricula.

As ISAT U and CAPSU collaborate to strengthen partnerships, the mutual exchange of knowledge and best practices aims to equip students for success in the constantly evolving fields of engineering and architecture.

The partnerships also aims to elevate support student well-being, ensuring that CAPSU students, like their counterparts at ISAT U, have access to quality resources, practical learning opportunities and holistic academic growth.

CAS Sponsors International Forum on Data Science and Job Opportunities

The Computer Department of the College of Arts and Sciences conducted an International Forum on Friday, January 31, 2025, and Saturday, February 1, 2025 respectively at the SSB Hall, Student Services Building, ISAT U New Site.

The forum which was held on Friday with the students of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS),Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS),  Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), and students of Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, focused on Shaping Future Data Scientists: A Seminar on Data Science and its Job Opportunities. Dr. Henry Ofori, a Part-time faculty of ISAT University from Ajou University, Suwon South Korea, discussed topics such as Data Science and Analytics, job roles of Data Scientist and analyst, and tips on accelerating data science and analysis career, to name a few. The forum was very beneficial to the students considering the era of computer science.

On the other hand, students of Master of Arts in Mathematics and Master of Science in Computer Science also took advantage of the expertise of Dr. Ofori and took time out to attend his discussion on Saturday, February 1. Dr Ofori discussed Advancing Data Science Expertise: A Masterclass for Future Leaders. He emphasized on different research methods using Smart PLS. Also, he emphasized the basics of modelling with SMART PLS and its advantages. According to him, SMART PLS can handle small sample sizes, work with non-normal data distributions, can effectively manage complex models with many constructs, handle both reflective and formative measurements and it is suitable for exploratory and confirmatory researches.

The forum turned out to be very interactive because it was in a classroom set up wherein the participants were free to ask questions during the discussion. It was beneficial on their part and considered this activity as a big opportunity for them especially on their pursuit for a Masters Degree.

University Celebrates Nat’l Intellectual Property Month 2024

The Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U), through its Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO), proudly led the celebration of National Intellectual Property (IP) Month 2024 with a series of engaging events and activities aimed at fostering creativity, innovation, and a deeper understanding of intellectual property rights.

With the theme “IP and the SDGs: Building our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity,” this year’s celebration kicked off on April 3, 2024 and concluded on April 27, 2024. The celebration highlighted the crucial role of IP in sustainable development and technological advancement. As the lead proponent, the ISAT U Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO), in collaboration with RAISE Project, UMWAD Western Visayas, ISAT U-Kwadra TBI, and ISATech – ISAT U Innovators and Technopreneurs Society, organized a dynamic lineup of activities designed to engage students, faculty, researchers, and budding entrepreneurs in the field of IP and technology transfer.

Throughout April, ISAT U hosted various events that catered to different aspects of intellectual property, innovation, and entrepreneurship such as Hatch-Up! Thesis to Startup – an opportunity for aspiring innovators to transform their academic research into viable startup ventures; Kwadra Kampo Kick-Off – a team orientation session that set the stage for collaborative learning in technology-based entrepreneurship; Prior Arts Search Days 1 & 2 – a workshops focused on the importance of prior art searches in protecting inventions and innovations, to name a few.

As a premier institution for science, technology, and innovation, ISAT U, through its Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO), remained committed to raising awareness about the importance of intellectual property protection in academia, business, and technology transfer. The university instilled a culture of innovation, responsible entrepreneurship, and IP commercialization by actively engaging students, researchers, and industry partners in these activities.

The ISAT U community, led by the Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO) and its partners, successfully participated in the National IP Month 2024, making the celebration meaningful and impactful. Innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and students gained valuable insights and opportunities to explore the exciting world of intellectual property.
