Excited faces representing different Colleges in the Main Campus and Satellite Campuses assembled early for the parade on the Opening Ceremony for the Pahampang 2013. Despite the heat, students showed their full support for this year’s activity in sports headed by their Deans, coaches and sports managers which was very much appreciated especially by Dr. Allen Russ Napud, this year’s over all chairman of the Foundation Anniversary.

According to Dr. Napud, being a part of this event shows each one’s commitment and love for sports. He was positive that the two-day event will showcase athletic performances of the highest quality. Therefore, he suggested that everyone should do their best and compete in the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play. “Sometimes, it’s just a simple game, but often, sports is much more than that. It is full of life’s lessons that can teach you about failure, joy, disappointment, excitement, winning and losing. It’s also about journey, teamwork, utility and selflessness.”

On the other hand, Mr. Robert Uy, the Pahampang 2013 guest of honor, and at the same time the Vice-Chairman of the Iloilo Sports Council and the Regional Director of the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas as well as the President /General Manager of Toyota Iloilo Inc., expressed that sports activity is necessary for a healthy body and an active mind. “It teaches us the values of teamwork, patience, consideration, humility and discipline – characters that I would consider more important than knowledge.” He further said that the things we learn from sports cannot be learned from a book nor acquired from the classrooms. He believes that sports is a powerful tool of training and when integrated in academic and practical skills, WVCST students will be at par with those of other colleges and universities all over the country. Lastly, he reminded the students that being in the Pahampang 2013 is not only about winning the game but also gaining friends.

After his very inspiring speech, a plaque of appreciation was handed to him by Dr. Nehema K. Misola, VP for Admin and Finance and Dr. Manuel A. Sanchez, Jr.,OIC-VPAA and Main Campus Administrator.
