Four faculty members of Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) garnered awards and cash prizes in the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) VI- Extension Managers Council Inc. (EMC) 5th Regional Extension Symposium held on January 21-22, 2015 at the Edtech Center.

“Greener Trees for a Greener Future” of Engr. Corazon Corbal, Engr. Albert Z. Janapon, and Engr. Al Joevid Mirasol’s  won the first place in the Health and Environment category while Dr. Eugenita Capaciete’s Adopt-a-mountain project also bagged the first place in the Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry category .

Other categories were: Education and Humanities, Livelihood and Entrepreneurship, and Engineering and Technology.

Meanwhile, the “Macrame Weaving: Its acceptability and benefits to GSC Extension Clients” project of GSC won the poster contest.

Cash prizes, consolation prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners and the non-winners.

“This seminar-workshop is to showcase the other good practices of the SUCs so the others can learn and adapt the things which are usually done in the extension services. Most coordinators are new, so it is a good chance for them to witness the presentations done during the symposium,” said Dir. Nenita G. Morada, Chairperson of PASUC VI-EMC Inc.

Lectures during the first day of the symposium were on the topics of monitoring and evaluation and the role of the community extension to a sustainable development.

The second day was the contest on the best poster and presentations of the schools’ programs in their extension services in different categories.

The participants were 85 extension managers from different SUCs in the Visayas. 13 of the participants came from Aklan State University (ASU),7 from Capiz State University (CAPSU), 5 from Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC), 3 from Central Philippine State College (CPSU), 9 from Guimaras State College (GSC), 10 from Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF), 13 from Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPSC), 3 Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST),  11 from University of Antique (UA),13 from  Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST), and 8 from West Visayas State University (WVSU).
