The Western Visayas College of Science and Technology Human Resource Department conducted a two-day training workshop to its newly hired faculty members on June 5 and 6, 2014.

                According to Mr. Bonie Arenal of the HR Department, they chose to train the new faculty members of the College because of the significant role they play in the delivery of quality education especially in the expected changes and development in the conversion of WVCST to ISAT-U.

The training aimed to make the participants learn new approaches, methods and instruments for classroom application, gain in-depth knowledge on teaching and learning theories, encourage innovation, teaching and learning process particularly in relation to the role of new technologies, facilitate student learning experience in the College-wide setting, develop and implement a behaviour change program and identify as well as adopt strategies for promoting self-management.

                Dir. Enieda G. Corona, Head of the HR Department, oriented the participants on the Norms and Conduct for public officials and employees as well as important laws and rules of the Civil Service Commission.

                Another topic discussed was Professionalism which was reviewed and explained by Dr. Hilda C. Montaño, Dean of the College of Education of WVSU. She reminded the participants that as faculty members, students look up to them and that their image also represents the institution and the profession they have.

                Dr. Ernesto S. Garin, now a new member of the WVSU Faculty, shared his knowledge on the Positive and Negative Side of Groupings and at the same time gave a short workshop on this matter. Other topics were Dealing with Adolescents, discussed by Dr. Rose Marie P. Prudente, Dean, College of Arts and Sciences and Outcome Based Education by Dr. Russ Allen B. Napud, Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture. Mrs. Maila S. Alparaque and Mrs. Elbe J. Sotito shed light on the leave laws that are allowed and practiced by employees and faculty.

On the second day of the workshop, Dr. Meriam A. Ohao, Principal of the Laboratory School, discussed Teaching Strategies, emphasizing that in the K to 12 program, the teacher should not manipulate the whole class all the time but should be the reverse and participatory on the part of the students. Self-Introspection: Its Implication to the Institutional Performance was explained by Dr. Nehema K. Misola, VP for Admin and Finance. During her talk, participants were given a short group activity on the most important values they should adapt as a person and as a faculty member of WVCST. Dr. Georgia Demavibas talked about Test and Measurement.

                There were 64 participants in this said workshop, 40 coming from the Main Campus, 7 from Barotac Nuevo Campus, 10 from Dumanggas Campus and 7 from Leon Campus.

Mr. Bonie Arenal of the HRD and Mrs. Hazel Bautista of the Registrar’s Office facilitated the training-workshop.
