The Western Visayas College of Science and Technology – Extension Services Division, under Engr. Cora Corbal, conducted a Bloodletting Program in cooperation with the Philippine National Red Cross on Thursday, March 6, 2014.

This activity is under the Blood Assurance Program (B.A.P.) of the Philippine National Red Cross-Western Visayas Regional Blood Center which was formulated to ensure that the National Voluntary Blood Service Pogram is observed while taking into consideration the needs of supporting groups.

Western Visayas College of Science and Technology as a support group donates blood to the Philippine National Red Cross every semester backup by the students, faculty and staff. The PNRC-WVRBC gives 40% of the total collected blood units for every blood type with  corresponding BAP (Blood Assurance Program) certificates.

In the said bloodletting activity, the Philippine Natinal Red Cross was able to collect 21 units of  blood type O, 16 units of blood type A, 10 for type B and 3 for AB. Out of the total 50 units collected, 40% will go to the BAP of WVCST which is 19 units.

Blood donors of the College came from volunteers mostly students of the College of Industrial Technology, College of Engineering and Architecture and the College of Education.

BAP is only applicable within a period of 1 month or 30 days after the Mobile Blood Donation. During that period, WVCST can refer a patient who would be able to avail blood units under the BAP. After the validity date,  the College would no longer be allowed to refer a patient under the program, but could be released of blood units depending on its availability. BAP Referrals only covers the blod units requested but the processing fees are still charged  to the folks.
