saavedraCherie Mae E. Saavedra, a BSEd major in English graduate of Iloilo Science and Technology University Miagao Campus, qualified as regional finalist in the search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP)-Western Visayas last July 4, 2017.

The 16 finalists in Region VI, including Saavedra, were chosen by the Regional Screening Committee.

“I was lucky enough to find the best institution and organization where I really fit and where my skills were recognized and developed. That explains why I had a productive college life,” said Saavedra.

As significant achievements in the stint of her college years, Saavedra served as the two-term Editor-in-Chief and Layout Artist of the Techno Forum, the student publication of ISAT U-Miagao. She was also  was appointed Editor-In-Chief of Jambo Balita (2016), the official newsletter of BSP Iloilo (Confesor) Council Scout Jamborette and attended an International Water Conference in Makati after qualifying in an online Essay Writing Tilt of United States Agency for International Development.

Saavedra graduated Cum Laude, Most Outstanding College Graduate, Proficiency Awardee in Student Teaching and Excellence Awardee in Journalism.

“This current distinction as a TOSPian is not the end of my pursuit for nation-building and for the success of my advocacies for saving nature, water conservation and responsive writing. Indeed, this is just the start for my wider participation as leader and community servant now that I am greatly inspired by the TOSP community,” added Saavedra.

The TOSP Foundation, Inc. has been spearheading the said annual search to recognize students from different universities and colleges who not only excel in the academic field but also dedicate themselves as exceptional leaders and community                                                     servants. (Dr. Sandra T.
