A team of four composed of representatives from CHED, PRC and MARINA came today, February 20, 2014 to evaluate the programs of BS Marine Engineering of the College.
In the opening program, it was emphasized by Dr. Greg Perez, Jr., Supervisor, Marine Engineering, CHED, Regional Office 6, that the visit does not mean they will police on the Marine Engineering Department and find loopholes but instead help improve the system of education in the said department. This was also seconded by Chief Engr. Eldifonso Uba from the Philippine Regulations Commission when he said that if we follow what is required, there is nothing to fear especially if your system is already aligned. The monitoring will also find out whether the expertise of the professors was passed on to the students. He then requested everybody involved in the evaluation to cooperate with the team.
Meanwhile, on the part of Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut, VP for Research and Extension, he conveyed his hope that the evaluation of CHED and MARINA will boost the morale of poor people to aspire for good and quality life for acquiring quality, relevant education yet affordable to public education. If ever the College falls short to the standards, he assured the team that WVCST is willing to embrace needed improvement just to be of service to the poor yet deserving students. Dr. Ambut believes that Western Visayas College of Science and Technology is the one which will articulate the notion that education is a social equalizer.
Other members of the evaluation team are Miss Ma. Cristina Fleras of MARINA and Miss Lovette Jardiolin of CHED Central Office.
