Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) bet Divine Marie E. Hismana bagged the Second Runner-Up Award in the 14th ABS-CBN Inter-school Newscasting Competition on October 1, 2016 at Robinson’s Mall, Jaro. Hismana qualifies in the regional finals of the region’s biggest TV newscasting competition set later this year.

The 18-year old  sophomore  student was the third best among the 14 aspirants from different universities and colleges of Iloilo and the first to represent ISAT U in the regional competition .

The winning of Miss Hismana came as a surprise. The student from Pavia is currently taking up Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from an institution known to offer technical, vocational, industrial and engineering courses. She is the only non-Mass Communication student who made it to the regional finals. The champion Julie Mae Ticar from Central Philippine University (CPU) and the first runner-up Kim Luden Salinas from West Visayas State University (WVSU) are taking up Mass Communications courses.

Her achievement also delighted school officials. Dr. Susan Marie de la Cruz, Dean of the Office of the Students Affairs said that it is the result of the school’s effort to provide a holistic students’academic development that focuses not only in science and technology but also in arts and other fields of learning.

In a chance interview, she admitted that it is her passion to be in the media industry. To take up Mass Communications was her first priority but due to financial considerations and other circumstances she ended up at ISAT U.

When asked about her feelings, she quipped, “Happy! I have achieved my goal and I will represent my school.”
