One-hundred one members of the faculty, staff and key officials of Aklan State University (ASU) toured the college on April 30, 2015 for the benchmarking of its International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 implementation.

The visitors were welcomed by the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) key officials in a program at the EdTech Center.

In an open forum, the visitors asked questions regarding WVCST's ISO 9001:2008 procedures such as the process of forming the Quality Management team and the cost of organizing in-house trainings. Dr. Manuel A. Sanchez, Jr., OIC-Vice President for Academic Affairs and the former Quality Management representative of the school, answered their queries.

“We spend more than Php 100, 000 for one training,” said Dr. Sanchez when asked about in-house training costs.

On the query regarding the office manuals, Dr. Sanchez explained that the office manual templates from Anglo Japanese American (AJA) Registrars especially the procedures per college are still being revised.

Dr. Sanchez also gave the visitors from ASU tips on how to organize its own Quality Management Team. He felt proud and happy that ASU recognizes the institution’s implementation of Quality Assurance.

Presently, WVCST has 11 members of the Quality Management Assurance Team with Dr. Renelda P. Nacianceno as the Quality Assurance Officer.

In May, WVCST will include its satellite campuses for the critiquing of its manual. The visitors toured the WVCST-Main campus after the short welcome and open forum.

ISO 9001:2008 is a certified quality management standard, WVCST has been an ISO certified organization since 2001.
