A total of 1,236 torches were lit by the participants coming from the faculty, employees and students in a call for world peace through inner peace on June 30, 2015.

The activity was spearheaded by the Middle Way Meditation Institute (MMI), a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of inner peace, in cooperation with Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U).

Prior to the lighting of the torches at 6:40 p.m., activities such as Zumba, yoga and meditation were conducted which were joined by the participants.

Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, Archdiocese of Jaro, was also present.

In his speech, Archbishop Lagdameo emphasized that the celebration is an expression of peace. The lighting of candles, according to him, signifies the desire to achieve world peace.

“You and I should strive to become men and women of peace,” added Archbishop Lagdameo.

Meanwhile, in his message, Dr. Raul F. Muyong, ISAT U-President, proudly announced that the university is the first inner peace university in the Philippines. He also encouraged everyone to be instruments of world peace.

The Peace Gen Club composed of members from other schools and the Students’ Laborer Association (SLA) of ISAT U facilitated the event.
