The ISAT U administrative staff cleans the mangrove area at the Iloilo River along Brgy. Laguda, La Paz.

The ISAT U academic community joined the whole nation in the observance of the Philippine Environment Month by holding a series of activities participated by the students, faculty and employees.

The 188 employees, students and faculty from different colleges and organizations started the environmental campaign with the adopt-an-estero/waterbody program orchestrated clean-up at the Iloilo River on June 17. Armed with rakes, sacks, sticks and protected by masks and gloves, the group gathered 375.5 kilograms of garbage along the riverbanks of Brgy. Laguda, La Paz and the Promenade at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol.

The Extension Services Division with the Gender and Development Office and the Environmental Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Office organized the one-hour environmental clean-up inthe different offices of the university in the morning on June 21.

To create awareness among the students, a lecture on environmental degradation and its impact to the lives of women, men and children was conducted by Mr. Edwin F. Mosura, Iloilo National High School Asst. Principal for Governance and Support.  It was followed by a poster making and song writing contest on the theme “Connecting People to Nature”. The teams from the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) took the first and second places while the entry from the College of Arts and Sciences got the third place. For the songwriting competition, the entry “Kina-iya” from the College of Education was declared Champion. “Awit ng Kalikasan” of BSIF, BSED and BSIS students and “Maglaho” from the CEA romped off with the second and third places, respectively.
